On Saturday, 6 th February, four Petanque members, Graham Jackson, Peter Matthews, Ian Richards and Lorraine Gray travelled to Levin to take part in the Arohanui Hospice Charity Melee. The weather was beautiful and it was a fun day with 38 players competing.
Each player drew a number and competed randomly with and against a wide range of players from clubs throughout the Wellington area. The person with the most wins and best differential at the end of five games won, and although the trophy didn’t come to Silverstream, congratulations to Ian who did extremely well and finished fifth with four wins – well done! It was a thoroughly enjoyable day with raffles, a sausage sizzle and spot prizes. As a result, with thanks to the sponsors and players, the Hospice benefitted by $680 Sixteen teams of two from 9 Petanque Clubs took part in this year's Wellington Interclub Competition which was held at Horowhenua Club (Levin) on Saturday 30th January.
Two teams entred from Silverstream: Team A: Claire Bradburn, Brian Bradburn, Rachel Clarke and Graeme Pilcher Team B: Owen Davie, Graham Jackson, Lorraine Gray and Ian Richards. At the end of the preliminary rounds Silverstream A was in 4th place, and Silverstream B in 5th place This meant that Silverstream A had to play Silverstream B, meaning in the final quarter only one Silverstream team could go through to the semi finals. Silvertream A lost to Manawatu on the Count back. It was considered by all to be an enjoyable successful day out in good weather.
The Silverstream Petanque triples were held on a cool and blustery Wednesday 20th January. Twelve Players were involved which equated to 4 teams.
The results are as follows: 1st - With 3 Wins were Claire Bradburn, Brian Bradburn and Graeme Pilcher 2nd - With 2 Wins were Lorraine Gray, Sheryl Hunt and Petrina Anderson. 3rd - With 1 Win were Graham Jackson, Peter Matthews and Ian Richards 4th - With 0 Wins were Owen Davie, Euan Evers and Helen Evers.
