Congratulations to Christine Hewitt and Andrea Gray who have been selected in the Wellington squad for the Women's WKWM 1-5 Year to be played at the Masterton Bowling Club on Friday November the 2nd. Christine is in the triples and Andy is the traveling reserve. The full squad can be found on the Bowls Wellington website.The Silverstream team of Abbey Dugdale (s), Christine Hewitt, Andrea Gray and Sharon Ritchie competed in the inaugural Naenae Women's Classic held from September the 29th to the 30th of September. They finished 12th in a field of 32 teams from around New Zealand. The team battled windy conditions and had 4 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw. A highlight for the team was a singles win against Kimberley Hemingway.
Notable names to finish below the Silverstream team include Blackjack Tayla Bruce, NZ Development Representative Nicole Toomey, Female Development Player of the Year Leanne Poulson and well known bowler Judy Howat. The annual Steven Stone Trophy event between Upper Hutt and Silverstream was held at Silverstream on Sunday 30th September. The competition was very close with 3 games being won with the last bowl of the match.
The Men’s Singles were split 1 each, as were the Men’s Pairs, Triples & Fours as well as the Mixed Fours. The Women’s Triple was a draw and Silverstream won the Women’s Pairs giving Silverstream 6 wins and 1 draw to Upper Hutt 5 wins and 1 draw. The players enjoyed the competition, the camaraderie and afternoon tea and we look forward to next years event at Upper Hutt. The annual men's challenge against Hutt was played on Sunday 23rd September. Silverstream got of to a very slow start but bowled much better in the afternoon. The results were:
Morning Results: Silverstream: 2 wins and 1 draw, Hutt: 6 wins and 1 draw. Afternoon Results: Silverstream: 7 wins, Hutt: 2 wins. Overall: Silverstream 9 wins and 1 draw, Hutt 8 wins and 1 draw. A close result in the end but Silverstream retained the Silverstream/Hutt Shield for another year. The annual challenge for the Charlie-Don Shield against Plimmerton was played on Sunday 9th September. It was a cool spring day but both greens were in excellent condition and some very good bowls were played. The results were:
Silverstream men: 8 wins, Plimmerton men: 10 wins. Silverstream women: 5 wins, Plimmerton women: 1 win. Overall: Silverstream 13 wins, Plimmerton 11 wins. The club had a visit from Jo and Dave Edwards on Friday 21st April. The visit was arranged by Jo's brother Ian Barrett. Jo brought along her gold medal from her win in the women's singles at the recently held Commonwealth Games and was happy to have her photo taken with some of the club's members.
Congratulations to the Silverstream men's teams of: Adam Turner - singles. Iain Opray and Edgar Blanche - pairs and Graham Mudgway, Graeme Ricketts, Ian Barrett and Aaron Wall - fours who were successful today at Naenae in gaining promotion to the premier division the Wellington men’s Interclub.
The four clubs involved in the promotion relegation were Silverstream, Lyall Bay, Island Bay and Tawa. There were three rounds of games with the top two teams to go through to the premier division. After the final game points were as follows: Island Bay 1st: 12 points (differential plus 46). Silverstream 2nd: 9 points (differential minus 12). Tawa 3rd: 8 points (differential minus 19).
