Congratulations to Adam Turner who got his first Centre title on Monday 6th November at the Hutt Club when he won the Wellington Open Singles. After defeating Ben King from Wilton in the semi-final 21 to 17, Adam defeated Seamus Curtin from Stokes Valley in a thrilling final 21 to 18.

Silverstream were convincing winners with 5 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses.
The Gough Shield and the Hutt Valley Banner were held on Saturday the 30th of September.
Gough Shield results were: 1st Silverstream with 13 points, 2nd Eastbourne with 12 points and 3rd Hutt with 11 points. Banner results were: 1st Stokes Valley with 12 points, 2nd Silverstream with 10 points +28 differential and 3rd Massey Avenue with 10 points + 26 differential. East vs West Challenge played 23rd April - once again West were the victors of the annual East of the railway line vs West of the railway line challenge. After ten years of this event West have won six times, East three times and the event was not played due to bad weather on one occasion. Corner To Corner Club Championship played 23rd April - For much of this event David Hewitt had the winning bowl until Warwick Dugdale played one of his trademark shots where he removed David's bowl and sat alongside the kitty. On Wednesday 1st February the first round of Mates in Bowls was canned due to, you guessed it, the weather Thursday 2nd February saw the continuation of the Handicap Singles competition. 4th/5th February saw progress in our Men's Singles and Women's Pairs Club Championships The Women's Pairs concluded and the final result has been reported in Latest News Tuesday 7th February saw continuation of the Club Aggregate Shield. Mates in Bowls finally got under way, with Round #2 being played on Wednesday 8th February. On Thursday 9th February our team played Women's Pennants Rounds #9 & 10 and won one and lost one. Thursday 9th February saw the continuation of the Handicap Singles competition. On Friday 10th February there was yet another successful defence in the Diamond Buttons challenge, this time over Island Bay. Well done RobynTuckett and Josie Coombe! Club Championships continued on Saturday 11th February with Women's Triples & Mixed Year 1-5 Singles. Sunday 12th February saw the introduction of a new social competition, Premier League Pairs. An enjoyable day. Congratulations to winners Iain Opray and Chris Williams! Tuesday 14th February saw continuation of the Club Aggregate Shield. Over 14th/16th February Margaret Opray & Robyn Tuckett competed in the Wellington Prestige Pairs competition and reached post section play. On Wednesday 15th February Men's Pennants Round #9 was played with our Division One team losing to Wainuiomata 2-4 and our Division Three team losing to Naenae 0-6. On Wednesday 15th February Mates in Bowls continued. Thursday 16th February College Bowls would have started for the year had it not been for the weather. The Friday 17th February Diamond Buttons challenge v Wainuiomata was postponed On Friday 17th February various Club Championship Finals and Semi Finals were postponed. Saturday 18th February the annual Brian Bridgemen Memorial Singles reached the Semi Final stage. On Sunday 19th February two Year 1-5 teams competed for the Gibbons Trophy, which is a triples competition. The teams were James Florance, Brian Ruby and Jamie Rollo and Rachel fiso, Andrea Gray and Sharon Ritchie. Both teams qualified for the second division with James, Brian and Jamie winning it. Well done all! Monday 20th February In the Gee Shield our women's teams had one win and three losses. On Tuesday 21st February we played Upper Hutt for the Jack Allen Trophy. This is an annual competition, with Upper Hutt regaining the trophy on this occasion. Tuesday 21st February Congratulations to Brian Ruby who defeated James Florance in the Club Championship Men's Year 1-5 Junior Final. Friday 24th February saw yet another Diamond Buttons challenge repulsion, this time from Wainuiomata. The next challenge will be on Friday 10th March. Well done Robyn and Josie. Friday 24th February Congratulations to Paul Smith who defeated Adam Turner in the Club Championship Men's Singles Final On 25/27th February five teams competed in the Wellington Centre Open Triples. Well done Robyn Tuckett, Margaret Opray and Kennie Critchlow and Graham Mudgway, Iain Opray and Edgar Blanche, both teams reaching post section play. On Tuesday 28th February the Club Aggregate Shield progressed. Wednesday 1st March saw our Men's Division One Pennants team defeat Hutt 4-2. The Division Three team had already finished their programme.
On Wednesday 18th January our Men's Pennants Division One team lost to Wainuiomata, 0-6 and our Division Three team beat Upper Hutt 5, 6-0. Thursday 19th January saw Women's Pennants canned due to the weather. Four members entered the Centre Singles, which took place on 21-23 January. Comgratulations to Robyn Tuckett and Adam Turner for reaching post section play and to Adam for reaching the last 16. Tuesday 24th January the Club Aggregate Shields got under way. Wednesday 25th January: saw the Men's Pennants canned due to the metereological conditions. On Thursday 26th January the Handicap Singles competition started. Diamond Buttons challenges continued to be repelled on Friday 27th January with a win over Massey Avenue. Congratuations to Robyn Tuckett and Josie Coombe. On Saturday 28th January: The Club Championship Men's Singles reached the post section stage. Saturday 28th January In the Women's Interclub Premier Reserve Play Off our team won promotion to Premier Grade as reported in Latest News. Sunday 29th January: saw two teams of Year 1 to 5 bowlers compete successfully in the McArthur Henry Shield, as reported in Latest News.
Many congratulations to our Women's Premier Reserve team who won promotion to Premier Grade next season after a tough battle in the Interclub Play Offs yesterday. Well done yesterday's team, (Josie Coombe, Kennie Critchlow, Mary Sue Critchlow, Clare Hendra, Christine Hewitt, Margaret Opray and Robyn Tuckett) who brought home the bacon and to all other members who contributed during the season.
Our first post Christmas activity , a Doubles Singles Gala took place on Tuesday 27th December. congratulations to winners Norma & Chris Williams. Three members travelled to Taranaki to compete in the National Championships which ran from 29th December to 8th January. Well done to Mark Finlay, for qualifying for post section singles play. The first Club Day of 2017 was held on Tuesday 10th January. Men's Pennants resumed on Wednesday 11th January with Round #2 which was postponed last year. Our Division One and Division Three teams both lost 0-6, to Naenae and Petone Central respectively. Women's Pennants on Thursday 12th January, which was already a postponement round, was canned again due to the weather. The Interclub competition concluded on Saturday 14th January with Rounds #2 and #3 which were postponed from last year. Graham Mudgway/Dave King will play Steve Critchlow/Hylton Tuckett on Friday 16th December and Robyn Tuckett/Mary Sue Critchlow/Kennie Critchlow/Maria Moen will play Josie Coombe/Olive Pearless/Denise Goldsmith/Christine Hewitt on Sunday 18th December. On Monday 5th December our women continued their campaign in the Gee Sgield with two wins and two losses. On Tuesday 6th December both the Club Aggregate Cup competition and the evening Skills Training session continued. Men's Pennants Round #7 on Wednesday 7th December saw two 6-0 wins for our Division One and Division Three teams over Naenae and Hutt 4 respectiviely. The winning margin over Naenae was the first time this has been recorded, as far as anyone can remember. Women's Pennants Rounds #5 & #6scheduled for Thursday 8th December were postponed due to the weather. The centre Open Pairs competition took place on 10th/11th/12th December and we had nine pairs competing. Great success here with our Club providing both finalists in the Women's competion and a Men's team reaching the quarter finals, which match has still to be finished, due to the atrocious weather conditions on the day. These successes have all been reported in more details in a separate post in Latest News. On Tuesday 13th December both the Club Aggregate Cup competition and the evening Skills Training session continued. Wednesday 14th December saw the Men's Pennants teams playing a postponement round with the Division One team losing to Stokes Valley 2-4 and the Division Three team beating Upper Hutt 3 6-0. On Friday 16th December we broke from tradition and played a Club Championship in the evening. Graham Mudgway and Dave King won the Men's Pairs, beating Steve Critchlow and Hylton Tuckett in a closely fought contest. There was a drinks happy hour, music and a great meal cooked by Paul Smith. For once it was a lovely day and congratulations to winners Iain Opray and Andrea Gray. The day finished with our Annual Christmas Function where a good time was had by all. The Men's Pennants competition was canned on Wednesday 16th November due to guess what? College Bowls was canned on Thursday 17th November due to a plague of locusts. At last some bowls! Women's Quad: Silverstream lost to Plimmerton 1-15 and drew with Wilton 8-8. Men,s Premier Reserve Section 3: Silverstream 1 beat Island Bay 2 23-1 and beat Massey Avenue 22-1. Another great effort. Men's Premier Reserve Section 2: Silverstream 2 lost to Eastbourne 1 9-14, and lost to Hutt 2 7-15. Men's Division 1: Silverstream lost to Stokes Valley 7-15 and lost to Wilton 8-15. Men's Division 3: Upperstream lost to Tawa 0-23 and lost to Titahi Bay 8-15. Club Championship Mens Pairs & Women's Singles section play got under way on Sunday 20th November. The Gee Shield competition started on Monday 21st November with our team having a win and a loss. The Club Aggregate Cup continued with Round #8 as did the regular Skills Training session on Tuesday 22nd November. At last some Men'sPennants! Round #5 on Wednesday23rd November saw our Division One team lose 0-6 to Hutt and our Division 3 team lose 2-4 to Massey Avenue. Womens Pennants Rounds #3 & #4 were played on Thursday 24th November and resulted in two wins out of two over Island Bay and Massey Avenue. A further round of College Bowls was completed on Thursday 25th November. This was the final session this year. On Friday 25th November our intrepid Diamonds Buttons duo of Robyn Tuckett and Josie Coombe repelled the challenge of Whitby. Four teams entered the Centre Open Fours on 26th/27th/28th November. Best performing were our Women's Four of Robyn Tuckett (s), Abbey Dugdale, Margaret Opray and Kennie Critchlow who qualified for post section play. There was a Casual Disc Draw on Sunday 27th November. A Club Day and Skills Training continued on Tuesday 29th November. Another round of Men's Pennants was played on Wednesday 30th November, with the Division One team defeating Stokes Valley 6-0 and our Division Three team losing to Upper Hutt 4 by the same score.
On Tuesday 1st November the Club Aggregate Cup proceeded and there was a further Skills Training session in the evening. Wednesday 2nd November saw further intervention by the elements and Men's Pennants was postponed. The Women's Pennants team kicked off their campaign on Thursday 3rd November with a win over Stokes Valley and a loss to Wainuiomata. College Bowls, hosted by our club, continued on Thursday 3rd November The Wellington Diamond Buttons challenge started on Friday 4th November, with members Robyn Tuckett and Josie Coombe repelling the first challenge of the season from Upper Hutt Interclub resumed on Saturday 5th November with a double header. The previous two rounds had been lost due to the weather. Women's Premier Reserve Section 2: Silverstream beat Whitby 24-0 and beat Petone Central 2 16-7. Women's Quad: Silverstream lost to Johnsonville 1-14 and lost to Upper Hutt 0-16. Men,s Premier Reserve Section 3: Silverstream 1 beat Plimmerton 24-0 and beat Miramar 1 22-0. A great effort. Men's Premier Reserve Section 1: Silverstream 2 lost to Island Bay 1 1 7-15, beat Whitby 14-7. Men's Division 1: Silverstream beat Naenae 14-8, lost to Johnsonville Men's Division 3: Upperstream lost to Naenae 0-22, beat Upper Hutt 2 15-8. The round robin and semifinal were concluded in the Club Championship Men's Fours on Sunday 6th November. The final will be between Adam Turner's team and Don McMurray's team and is scheduled for Sunday 18th December. On Tuesday 8th November the Club Aggregate Club and Skills Training continued and there was progress in College Bowls on Thursday 10th November. Six of our members were due to play in the Wellington Centre Singles on 12th/13th/14th November but - you guessed it - it was canned due to the weather, as was Casual Bowls on Sunday 13th November.
The Club Aggregate Cup continued on the afternoon of Tuesday 18th October and our regular Skills Training sessions continued on same evening. The weekly Games Afternoons concluded for the season on Thursday 20st October and the College Bowls competition started on the same afternoon. On Saturday/Sunday 22nd/23rd October, nine of our members competed in the Centre Mixed Pairs tournament, sponsored by Bowls Specialists. Kennie & Steve Critchlow, Robyn Tuckett & Mark Finlay, Abbey & Warwick Dugdale and Clare Hendra (playing in a composite team) all qualified for post section play, with Abbey & Warwick and Clare winning their first post section matches. Well done all! Our casual bowls programme continued on Saturday 22nd October, with Triples and 2-4-2 matches. A good time was held by all. On Sunday/Monday 23rd/24th October, we hosted our annual 1 to 5 Year 2-4-2 Pairs Gala, with eight of our members going into battle. Congratulation to overall winners Mark Burgess & James Fairhall from the Victoria club. See Latest News and our Facebook page for more details. All activities scheduled for Tuesday/Wednesday 25th/26th October were canned due to the weather. College Bowls continued on Thursday 27th October. The weather reigned supreme again on Saturday 29th October with Interclub being postponed and our Have A Go Day being cancelled. This is the most disrupted start to a season that we can recall. Despite late withdrawals and weather interruptions we managed to complete two rounds of Club Championships Men's Fours on Sunday 30th October.
"Sunday and Monday of Labour weekend saw the successful completion of Silverstream Bowling Club's 1 to 5 Year 242 Pairs Gala. Congratulations to the winners and all the players who participated.

Everyone present for their great support of the raffles. All the spectators who came out and supported their clubs junior players – this is really great to see. But most of all a huge thankyou to the players whose competitive spirit and great attitudes made it a fantastic two days to be involved with! We look forward to seeing you all again next year and encourage you all to take responsibility to get more of your clubs juniors to get involved not this this tournament, but as many difference junior bowls events that they can."
Our women played in the first round of the Gee Shield competition on 3rd October and came away with two wins and two losses. Round #2 of the Club Aggregate Cup was contested on Tuesday 4th October in the afternoon and the weekly skills training session was held in the evening. Saturday 8th October saw the start of the Bowls Wellington Interclub competition, with four men's and two women's teams sailing into battle. Results were: Women's Premier Reserve Section 2: Silverstream beat Wilton, 14-7 Women's Quad: Silverstream beat Hutt, 14-1 Men's Premier Reserve Section 3: Silverstream 1 lost to Naenae, 7-15 Men's Premier Reserve Section 2: Silverstream 2 lost to Miramar, 7-15 Men's Division 1: Silverstream beat Tawa Services, 22-0 Men's Division 3: Upperstream beat Hutt, 16-8 There was some casual bowls played on Saturday 8th October in the afternoon. Rounds #1 and #2 of the Club Championship Fours were postponed on Sunday 9th October due to the weather. The Club Aggregate Cup continued on the afternoon of Tuesday 11th October and our regular Skills Training sessions continued on same evening. The weather prevailed again on Saturday 15th October, with Interclub and the Club Variety Pairs being cancelled. The revamped Men's Club Championship Fours got under way on Sunday 16th October under sunny skies. Throughout the period our popular Games Afternoons continued on Thursdays at 1pm and our legendary Social Evenings continued on Fridays from 4pm.
Our Opening Day on 3rd September was a great success with a good turnout from existing members and a number of prospective new members attending. On 11th September we held a casual bowls afternoon and the Tuesday afternoon programme started with a Club Day on 20th September and the first round of the Club Aggregate Cup on 27th September. Our men bowlers had their first competitive outing on 24th October in the Gough Shield and Hutt Valley Banner competitions. We were runners up in the Gough Shield, narrowly missing the top spot on count back and finished mid table in the Hutt Valley Banner. We hosted Plimmerton on 25th September for our annual challenge for the Charlie Don Shield, which was rearranged from the previous weekend. An 8-4 win saw us regain the Shield! The regular weekly Skills Training evenings started on 27th September. On 1st October our men bowlers hosted Hutt for our annual challenge. We couldn't repeat our success over Plimmerton with a 5-13 loss ensuring that the Shield eluded our grasp. Throughout the month our popular Games Afternoons continued on Thursdays at 1pm and our legendary Social Evenings continued on Fridays from 4pm.
On 23rd April our men's and women's triples winners competed in the Champion of Champion Triples, with neither team progressing past the first round. On 24th April we had our Closing Day competitions. Easts won the annual East v West challenge (the first time for a while) and Dave Turner won the Corner to Corner competition. On 30th April our men's and women's pairs winners competed in the Champion of Champion Pairs, with both teams getting through one round before being eliminated.
As we approach closing day bowls activities wind down but there are a couple more results to report. During the following week our women played Upper Hutt for the Jack Allen Trophy and retained it. Well done again!
