Andrea Gray and Sharon Ritchie runners-up in the Wellington Development 242 Pairs (women's section)

23/1/2018

Picture
After showing very strong form throughout the completion, Andy and Sharon met a very experienced combination of Kimberley Hemingway and Jessie Macaw from Naenae in the final. After 12 ends the scores were even but over the final ends the Naenae team pulled away with the final score being 17 to 14. This was however a fantastic effort from the two Silverstream second year bowlers.
Mention should also be made of the Sonny White and James Florance who made it through to the quarter finals of the men's section before being knocked out.

Representative Selection

27/10/2017

Congratulations to Christine Hewitt and Rachel Olivecrona who have been selected in the Wellington squad for the Women's WKWM 1-5 Year to be played at Papaparaumu Beach on November the 3rd. Christine and Rachel will be playing together in the 242 pairs.

Successful Opening Day

27/8/2017

The club held a very successful opening day on Sunday the 27th of August. The weather was fine and there was a good turnout of members. Invited guests were Pat Christianson, Wayne Guppy, Chris Hipkins and Mark O’Connor. As usual the annual completion amongst the invited guests to see who could bowl closest to the jack was a fiercely fought affair with Pat coming out on top. The competition on the piste was equally close with Chris winning this event. After a casual lunch members then spent some time in the sun playing a casual game of bowls. To see photos of the opening day please go to our Facebook page: Bowls Silverstream.

Steven Stone Memorial Trophy played 22nd April- This is an annual event between Upper Hutt and Silverstream and commemorates the death of Steven Stone a very promising bowler who was member of both the Upper Hutt and Silverstream clubs. Steven died ten years ago in a burglary that went wrong. This year the event was held at Silverstream with two wins to each club but on a count back of ends Upper Hutt was declared the winner. Over the past ten years Upper Upper has won twice and Silverstream six times. There were two years when the event was not played.
East vs West Challenge played 23rd April - once again West were the victors of the annual East of the railway line vs West of the railway line challenge. After ten years of this event West have won six times, East three times and the event was not played due to bad weather on one occasion.
Corner To Corner Club Championship played 23rd April - For much of this event David Hewitt had the winning bowl until Warwick Dugdale played one of his trademark shots where he removed David's bowl and sat alongside the kitty. Congratulations to Warwick as this years winner.
Used Bricks Required. Dennis Coombe is looking for used bricks to finish a garden project. If you have any around your place which you don't want can you please give Dennis a ring on 977-4431 and he will gladly collect.

Congratulations to Claire Bradburn who is in Ghent Belgium for the Petanque World Championships.

As a result of a recent fever, Duchess visited Pet Vet for some blood tests etc. She is much better now but the cost was $340. Pet Vet cover most costs associated with Duchess but the club had to pay this bill. If you would like to make a donation to help offset these cost there is a donation jar on the bar.

Changes are afoot behind the scenes on our website with Chris Williams handing over the Website Co-ordinator role to Peter Alsop over the next few weeks.  Whilst knowledge transfer is going smoothly there are some technical tasks ahead that look easy in theory but which which might not be so in practice, given that we are dealing with computers.
So please bear with us if there are delays in Latest News posts and updating in general.
We will let you know when the handover is complete.

Silverstream members made a splash in the Centre Pairs competition held last weekend, in atrocious conditions.  We provided both finalists in the Women's event with Clare Hendra and Kennie Ctitchlow prevailing over Robyn Tuckett and Margaret Opray.  A great achievement!  Pictured, starting top left and going clockwise are Robyn, Margaret, Kennie and Clare.
Meanwhile in the Men's competition Steve Critchlow and Hylton Tuckett were half way through their quarter final when the match was called off due to the conditions, to be finished on another day.  Well done!

Congratulations to overall winners  Mark Burgess and James Fairhall from the Victoria club. The gala was extremely well run and our thanks go to Aaron Wall for all his hard work in organising the event.  Aaron's own report follows:
"Sunday and Monday of Labour weekend saw the successful completion of Silverstream Bowling Club's 1 to 5 Year 242 Pairs Gala. Congratulations to the winners and all the players who participated.
Thank you again to the following people - Greens: Don McMurray & Ian Prince. Kitchen: Ian & Jane Prince & Margaret Opray. Bar: Ray Wall, Iain Opray & Hylton Tuckett. All round help for two days: Dave Turner, Iain & Margaret Opray. The SBC juniors for all their work before and after play and all other local members who pitched in and helped. Everyone present for their great support of the raffles. All the spectators who came out and supported their clubs junior players  – this is really great to see. But most of all a huge thankyou to the players whose competitive spirit and great attitudes made it a fantastic two days to be involved with!
We look forward to seeing you all again next year and encourage you all to take responsibility to get more of your clubs juniors to get involved not this this tournament, but as many difference junior bowls events that they can."
